Constant Head Permeameter
Product Overview
STANDARDS: BS 1377:5 | ASTM D2434 | AASHTO T215
Constant Head Permeameter is a laboratory testing apparatus used to determine the hydraulic conductivity (coefficient of permeability) of soil samples under a constant hydraulic head. The test is particularly suitable for relatively coarse-grained soils such as sands and gravels.
Used to determine the permeability of granular, gravel and sand soils.
The specimen is formed in an acrylic permeability cell, andwater is passed through it from a constant level tank.
The permeability cell has pressure points at different levels which are connected to the manometer tubes fixed on a stand with graduated scale. Two constant head permeability cells are available:
75 mm and 114 mm diameter.
The apparatus allows water to flow through a prepared soil specimen under controlled conditions, while the quantity of water passing through the specimen is measured over a known period. The resulting data can be used to calculate the permeability characteristics of the soil.
