Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP)

Made in: Italy
Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) for rapid in-situ evaluation of soil strength, penetration resistance and relative soil conditions in geotechnical and pavement investigations.

Product Overview

Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP)

TRL = TRANSPORT RESEARCH LABORATORY, UK.
STANDARD: ASTM D6951

The Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) is a portable field testing instrument used for the rapid assessment of soil penetration resistance and in-situ ground conditions. It is widely used in geotechnical investigations, pavement evaluation and soil strength assessment.

The DCP operates by driving a cone into the ground using a controlled hammer blow and recording the penetration achieved. The resulting penetration measurements can be used to evaluate changes in soil resistance with depth and assist in assessing subsurface conditions.

Key Features

  • Portable and suitable for field testing
  • Rapid assessment of soil penetration resistance
  • Simple mechanical operating principle
  • Suitable for in-situ soil investigation
  • Robust construction for demanding site conditions
  • Easy to transport and set up
  • Useful for identifying changes in soil conditions with depth
  • Suitable for geotechnical and pavement investigations
  • Made in Italy

This portable hand operated equipment is designed to obtain a direct and rapid in-situ evaluation of the structural strength of road pavement layers constructed with unbound materials.
The DPC Penetrometer results can be compared with CBR (California Bearing Ratio) as per sperimental Kleyn 1982 studies.
The test is performed with continuous penetrations at approx.
800 mm depth with max. depth of 2 m by using extension rods.
The equipment housed in carrying case, consists of:

  • Drop sliding hammer 8 kg weight, falling height of 575 mm
  • Impact anvil with driving rod
  • Penetration rod with conical 60° point and Ø 20 mm
  • Bar wrench, spanners, accessories.

Applications

The Dynamic Cone Penetrometer is commonly used for:

  • In-situ soil investigation
  • Soil strength assessment
  • Subgrade evaluation
  • Pavement investigation
  • Road construction projects
  • Geotechnical site investigation
  • Ground condition assessment
  • Compaction and soil uniformity studies
  • Civil engineering field testing
